File Extension DMP
File extension DMP is a system file that contains a memory dump that is typically and automatically created once Windows crashes or contains an error. The files for memory dump in Windows are used for system error troubleshooting as well as other problems, though the space they take is significant and may be deleted.

Windows can be configured to save information of a STOP message to a file extension DMP. There are three varieties of memory dumps namely: small, kernel and complete memory dump. For the complete memory dump, the boot volume paging file should have the capacity to hold a physical RAM of 1MB or more while for the kernel, the maximum size required is 800MB.
